What is a digital certificate ?

The certificate is an electronic stamp that allows you to verify the authenticity of a document and tells you, beyond any doubt, who is the signatory.

First used in antiquity, the seal was used in lieu of a signature and attested to the veracity of an act. At about the time of the Renaissance (16th century) literacy being more common, the seal gave way to written signatures. Today the movement of documents over open networks (internet) means that we have gone back to our beginnings, but this time electronically.

The wax seal is a technical procedure which uses a metal die (held by the signatory who guards it jealously) which is placed into hot wax. Once this has cooled a stamp is obtained .Using this process attests to the signatory and protects the document.

The certificate is mainly used to sign documents electronically It works using an electronic signature tool.
